Coral Gables, officially the City of Coral Gables, is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, located southwest of downtown Miami.

Estimates from the United States Census Bureau made in 2017 showed that the city had a population of 51,095. Coral Gables is home to the University of Miami. Coral Gables was one of the first planned communities, and its planning was based on the popular City Beautiful movement of the early 20th century.

It is infamous for its strict zoning regulations. The city was developed by George Merrick during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The city's architecture is almost entirely Mediterranean Revival in style, laid out on the original plan, including the Coral Gables Congregational Church, donated by Merrick. The vaulted Catholic Church of the Little Flower was built somewhat later, in a similar Spanish Revival style. The city used to have an electric streetcar system, which was superseded by the popularity of modern automobiles, but now a new free-running streetcar system, started in November 2003, runs along Ponce de León Boulevard.

In 1925, roughly simultaneously with the founding of Coral Gables, the city was selected as the site for the University of Miami, which was built that year on 240 acres (97 ha) of land west of US Route 1, approximately two miles south. from downtown Coral Gables.
